Beneath the surface, clothes hold a secret charm. they're not just 100% cotton or 100% linen; within their threads lie hidden colors, mysteries unsung by labels. regrettably, coloring clothing conceals a sad tale of toxicity and environmental harm. polluted rivers are flowing through the land next to fast fashion factories.

I made a collection of upcycled clothes by dyeing the garments with the madder root: a plant which has the ability to color textile in the most beautiful pink and red.

For the photoshoot I wanted to create a mystical feeling by showing madder wearing creatures who live together in the woods. The mystery of the materials past (it used to be one of Hollands biggest export products!) matches the mystery of the almost fairytale like aesthetics.
